6.4.5 Data Analysis

STEM Interest

As previously mentioned, the first section of the pre-test was composed of questions that let the researcher know the sample.

The pre-test reveals that 24 out 25 students have got a PC at home. Firstly, students were asked to self-assess their ability using a score from 1 to 10. The self-assessment of the e-skills revealed that male students have higher ability in using the PC. Since it is a self-assessment, the values should be taken into consideration carefully, but this pointed out one of the main issues related to the gender gap in STEM (Science, Technologies, Engineering and Math) degree courses (Beede et al., 2011). In our investigation, it seems that girls underestimate their tech skills (Fig. 6.8).
